The professional skin refining kit

If you saw my Facebook live video from earlier this week, we addressed a couple of things.

Number 1: We’re suspending treatments at this time until 29th March.

For the full statement see here.

Number 2: That doesn’t mean you can’t keep up with your skincare at home!

As a first at Skin Essentials I have made a professional product available for home use as a special kit because I trust you, our clients, to use it. What makes it a professional product is that we usually use it only in the treatment room, but don’t worry, it does not require special training or licence to use! It’s actually quite simple to use with maximum expert skin refining results.

This kit contains:skin refining, pore refining, covid 19, skincare, skin essentials, wexford, compromised skin,

  • Skin Comfort Oil,
  • Skin Comfort Cream
  • Professional Refining Skin Polish.

Note: contains aspirin derivative (this is the salicylic acid ingredient) so on the side of extreme caution not to use during pregnancy or aspirin allergy

Refining Skin Polish:

This is a gentle powder combining four active ingredients for cellular renewal and skin polishing:

  • Horsetail powder to smooth and clean Skin refining, pore refining, covid 19, skincare, compromised skin, exfoliation, skin essentials by mariga, wexford(also antiseptic and nutritive).
  • White willow powder (salicylic acid) smooths, anti-clogging agent and anti-inflammatory.
  • Retinoid (vitamin A derivative) increases the rate of cell turnover.
  • Ascorbic Acid (brightening, anti-oxidant and lightly exfoliating).

Use alone on all skin types or after enzyme exfoliator (for extra boost if skin is in very sluggish, neglected or dull state). Mix half a teaspoon with warm water in the palm of your hand to begin dissolving actives, and gently massage into skin for two minutes. Remove with warm water/cloth.

If using after enzyme exfoliator there is no need to remove the enzyme first.

Your Personalised Skincare Plan for 2020

You know that you want to get your skin under control.

You know that you need to start using the right products and maybe have some clinical treatments or facials to achieve your goal.

But which ones??

Often we see people who want to book in a course of treatment because it worked for a friend, or they have seen it recommended by an influencer or advertised in the media.

While it is great that we have so much information at our fingertips sometimes it can lead to even more confusion with information overload! There are so many skin products, treatments and conflicting advice and opinions out there, how can you tell which is the most relevant to your own skin concerns?

The answer is that you really can’t, not by yourself. Skin health and appearance is an extremely personal journey with many contributing factors, so there are as many answers as there are individuals.

You need to get personalised advice from a professional skin specialist who can then guide you to the perfect routine for you, based on your personal skin journey to date and targeted to your future skin goals.

At Skin Essentials we can make you a personalised roadmap to bring you to where you want to be with step-by-step recommendations for daily skincare as well as any corrective treatments you willed to achieve your goal.

The new year is the perfect time to set your skincare target. I have been working on my own skincare roadmap for 2020 and share it with you below to show you what you can expect from a Personalised Skincare Plan.

I set out my main skin concerns/ goals for the year and break down what steps I need to take to achieve them. It makes it very clear and helps me stay on track! Usually I reassess halfway through the year to make sure that I am achieving what I set out to do, and make any tweaks necessary such as compensating for the effects of any new medications, hormonal changes or sun exposure for example.

This January I am offering a Personalised Anti-ageing Plan consultation free of charge to any of my existing clients who want to take the next step in their skincare journey. Places are limited so please contact us at our Wexford clinic on 053 9145981 / 086 3823608 to secure your appointment now.

LED facial – what does it do for your skin?

LED facial – why you need to add this amazing therapy to your clinical skincare routine. Anyone who has been to Skin Essentials by Mariga for a skin treatment is likely to know how much I love LED as a skin therapy tool! I have been combining LED into my treatments, both classic facials and advanced therapies such as microneedling, for ten years now.

Photo of client lying under the Celluma LED light therapy panel with the caption 'New Facial at Skin Essentials by Mariga The Light & Heat Facial treatment with TriPollar radiofrequency and LED light therapy'

Those of you who have already had LED facials with us will know how relaxing it is, and how your skin glows and feels incredibly smooth afterwards. But it is much more than a relaxing add on to a treatment. This simple seeming technology is working deeply in your skin to enhance cellular function that has an effect long after your facial is over.

So, what’s happening in your skin while you snooze under the panel? For the skin-geeky among you, here’s the science bit!

Light is applied to the face in a custom-chosen wavelength(s) between 400-830nm

Cytochrome C Oxidase is activated in the mitochondria and fibroblast activity is upregulated

Respiration, transcription factors, ATP energy production, angiogenesis, cell proliferation are upregulated while apoptosis (cell death) is decreased

Revitalised skin cell function and tissue repair manifest on the skin in visible results such as increased hydration, plumper skin, decreased lines, better colour.

It is common to see an immediate result from your first LED treatment, particularly in terms of skin colour and smoothness but for lasting effects we recommend a course of 12 treatments taken at a rate of 2-3 per week when using LED as a stand alone treatment.

As part of a combined therapy such as bio therapeutic microneedling or light&heat radiofrequency therapy we use the LED in such a way as to enhance the effects of the principal therapy and results are seen from a single treatment.

Additionally, in a skin that is not suitable for hands-on treatment in the early stages of a corrective skin programme, for reasons such as hyper reactivity, you can benefit from LED as a gentle yet progressive skin therapy.

Fixing my travel-tired skin – before and after pics

I’ve been doing a lot of travel for work lately and while it’s fun to see new people and places all the time, it definitely takes a toll on your face!

Yesterday I popped in to the opticians to look at the new stock (I LOVE buying glasses 😁) and took some selfies with a few styles on to look at later. Well! What I saw was tired, devitalised totally ancient-looking skin 😭

Emergency repair works were needed immediately so I chose an EPM SmartMeso treatment, the fast-acting deep skin infusion therapy that infuses hyaluronic acid for hydrating and plumping, along with Vitamin C for revitalising, deep into the epidermis.

Straight after treatment skin looks a little pink and can feel tight and warm but this morning I feel like I have a new (younger!) face.

I took a pic this morning with the same make up etc. that I had on yesterday and put them side by side to see the difference in just one day! 🥰

What do you think? And should I buy those glasses I tried on??

I highly recommend this treatment if you need a quick skin pick-me-up.

New Skin Treatments for 2019

At Skin Essentials by Mariga we are always researching, learning and training to make sure that we are bringing you the very best in new skin treatments, as well as constantly updating our current offering to keep pace with industry developments worldwide. As you may know, Jane and I are just back from a week of extensive training and I wanted to bring you up to speed on what we were up to and let you in on the updates from the world of advanced non-invasive skincare.

List of new skin treatments coming to skin essentials by mariga clinic wexford in 2019 including lipofirmmed skin tightening, biodynamic lymph drainage massage, rejuvenation treatments for the skin of the neck, chest, oncology safe facials and skincare products, hormonal acne control

Although we do lots of training through the year, we find it really beneficial to do one intensive week where we can pack as much knowledge in as possible, meet the people who are making exciting changes in the beauty world, and connect with like-minded therapists. It’s just a bonus that this education takes place in the beautiful Desert Southwest of Phoenix, Arizona 😃

Every year we hear from expert formulators about what is new and emerging in the realm of skincare ingredients that we can potentially incorporate into our products and treatments (lots of new info on hormonal adult acne!), and then there are bonus workshops on different themes. This year that included learning from Becky Kuehn of Oncology Spa Solutions who has a passion for bringing oncology skincare to primary cancer care centres and training other therapists in this rewarding branch of our jobs. As I have been a qualified oncology skincare practitioner for a few years now, I was especially interested to hear the great work she is doing in the US and would love to see something similar happen in Ireland. We also enjoyed learning from Lori Crete, a renowned Beauty Business Coach on excellence in customer service and business practice and had an interesting talk from skincare formulator John Stanek, who finally managed to make me understand the concept of ‘heavy water’ as a skincare ingredient as opposed to a marketing term. His lecture on stem cells was also very interesting.

So what does all this mean for you, our lovely clients??

-More chemistry, bio-chemistry and physiology education always means a more micro-tailored treatment with predictable outcomes so every treatment we perform is enhanced every time we study the latest scientific discoveries.  But, you want to know what new treatments and/or products we brought back, don’t you? 😂

From this trip (and ongoing training we are undertaking here) you can expect the following from Skin Essentials over the next few weeks and months:

-A whole new suite of treatments aimed at rejuvenating the décolleté/chest area. Think reducing sun damage, plumping crepey and loose skin, eliminating sun spots, firming and brightening. From individual one-off treatments to refresh the skin of the chest to fully bespoke packages for dramatic rejuvenation, there will be something for you.

-Advancements in BioDynamic Lymphatic Drainage facial massage, relaxing, brightening and a Godsend for puffy skin.

-More oncology-safe facials

-The introduction of LipofirmMed Skin Tightening. Over twice the radiofrequency power of our current offering, this updated Divine Pro treatment can be done all over the face and neck for skin tightening and contour sharpening, or concentrated specifically on the neck and jawline for those of you who find that the neck area is your giveaway!

I think that’s enough to be going on with, don’t you?? As always we can tailor any treatment specifically for your needs so please reach out to us to find out how we can help you today.

EPM – the end of facials?

The latest treatment launch from Skin Essentials by Mariga is EPM – a combination skin therapy designed to allow skin-boosting ingredients to cross the stratum corner (skin’s protective outer layer) in a minimally invasive way to get to the lower layers where they can hydrate, revitalise and plump up the skin layers from the inside out. Giving you incredibly hydrated, plump, dewy results that last.

I am so excited to introduce this brand new technology to Ireland, and I’m sure you are all going to love it as much as I do!

Skin cross section showing the layers and where smarted meso serum is delivered to the lowest epidermis using EPM facial mesotherapy alternative

The techie bit: Combining electroporation and microchip transdermal technology with cosmetic microneedling techniques, this is an advanced type of mesotherapy.

How is the EPM facial treatment different from traditional mesotherapy?  Traditional mesotherapy uses needles to deliver skin-enhancing ingredients to the lower layers of the skin. In this new, patented treatment the SmartMed microchip delivers the same results but in a less invasive way.

Electroporation utilises short bursts of electrical current to create temporary pathways into the skin cell membrane, increasing permeability and absorption potential. At the same time the nano needles deliver high grade Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C to be used by the skin as a revitalising and hydration medium, getting these skin-loving ingredients deep down where they can accelerate and enhance metabolic processes. the dermal reserve of the skin (where hydrating factors are found) is boosted resulting in visible radiance at the surface.

As a secondary effect, the microneedling element stimulates fibroblasts to produce collagen fibres at a higher rate, giving you long term anti-ageing benefits as well as the fast surface results gained from the EPM aspect of the treatment.

explaining smartmed smartness electroporation technology EPM in a tech box

If all this sounds like it is only for the brave, don’t worry! This treatment is quite comfortable to have, easier by far than traditional microneedling, as it does not go as deep. You will be pink afterwards and pretty much back to normal by the next day. The depth, intensity and speed of the application are all adjustable to each skin type and level of sensitivity.

I’m really excited about this treatment as it gives the results that you love from a hydrating facial but in a much deeper way, meaning the results last a lot longer even from a single session. Imagine that soft, dewy feeling you have straight after your facial, but every day! This exciting new technology even has me wondering if facials are going to become a thing of the past!!

Hyaluronic Acid & Vit C Skin Infusions

Our brand new treatment – SmartMeso – is a dermal infusion of Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C, two of the top ingredients for a youthful, radiant, hydrated skin.

Here’s all you need to know about these essential skin ingredients and how they work to give you a healthy, glowing skin:

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of the skin and a major component of the natural moisturising factor of the dermis, capable of retaining 1000 times its volume in water. The quantity and quality of the NMF contributes to giving skin its plumpness, resiliency and radiance. Hyaluronic Acid also contributes to collagen production as when it naturally breaks down in the skin the remnants are used to help build collagen fibres. Already a big player in your topical skincare, we can now get hyaluronic acid molecule intact to the lower layers using non-invasive mesotherapy infusions.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is not made by our bodies and therefore must be supplied to the skin. It is a water soluble antioxidant, and this means that it can work in almost all the reactions occurring in the cell.

There is more to vitamin C than the  antioxidant (repair) side. Ascorbic acid is also a cofactor in the production of some amino acids, and it is required for the synthesis of collagen. Collagen is important not only for skin appearance, it is also involved in wound-healing and in preventing bleeding from capillaries.

Vitamin C  provides important protection against damage induced by UV light, improves skin elasticity, decreases wrinkles by stimulating collagen synthesis, reduces redness, promotes wound healing, reduces inflammation and suppresses melanin (dark pigment) synthesis.

dermal infusion of hyaluronic acid and vitamin c results in bullet point - pain free 84 percent increase in absorption non-invasive

Read all about our new SmartMeso Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C Infusions here.

The SmartMeso dermal infusion treatment gets these essential actives deep in the skin layers using electroporation microchip technology, where they can get to work immediately to hydrate and revitalise from the inside out. Each treatment takes about 35 minutes and is quite comfortable to have. You will be a little pink for a few hours afterward and from the next day you will see the results begin to show in softer, more radiant and hydrated skin that glows with vitality.
