LED facial – why you need to add this amazing therapy to your clinical skincare routine. Anyone who has been to Skin Essentials by Mariga for a skin treatment is likely to know how much I love LED as a skin therapy tool! I have been combining LED into my treatments, both classic facials and advanced therapies such as microneedling, for ten years now.
Those of you who have already had LED facials with us will know how relaxing it is, and how your skin glows and feels incredibly smooth afterwards. But it is much more than a relaxing add on to a treatment. This simple seeming technology is working deeply in your skin to enhance cellular function that has an effect long after your facial is over.
So, what’s happening in your skin while you snooze under the panel? For the skin-geeky among you, here’s the science bit!
Light is applied to the face in a custom-chosen wavelength(s) between 400-830nm
Cytochrome C Oxidase is activated in the mitochondria and fibroblast activity is upregulated
Respiration, transcription factors, ATP energy production, angiogenesis, cell proliferation are upregulated while apoptosis (cell death) is decreased
Revitalised skin cell function and tissue repair manifest on the skin in visible results such as increased hydration, plumper skin, decreased lines, better colour.
It is common to see an immediate result from your first LED treatment, particularly in terms of skin colour and smoothness but for lasting effects we recommend a course of 12 treatments taken at a rate of 2-3 per week when using LED as a stand alone treatment.
As part of a combined therapy such as bio therapeutic microneedling or light&heat radiofrequency therapy we use the LED in such a way as to enhance the effects of the principal therapy and results are seen from a single treatment.
Additionally, in a skin that is not suitable for hands-on treatment in the early stages of a corrective skin programme, for reasons such as hyper reactivity, you can benefit from LED as a gentle yet progressive skin therapy.
