Why do at home microneedling?
Cosmetic needling, also known as dermal rolling, is performed at home between clinical microneedling treatments to enhance the results obtained.
It is a complementing home therapy intended to boost outcomes, rather than a separate treatment.
When we do home needling we are working on and influencing the epidermis, the outermost layers of the skin. This releases epidermal growth factors within the skin structure which results in thickening and strengthening of the epidermis giving you a smoother more even texture.
Cosmetic home needling, which is done at a depth of no more than 0.3 mm, also enhances penetration of your recommended active ingredients increasing their penetration by up to 8 times.
Home needling in conjunction with clinical depth treatments will show enhanced results versus clinical needling alone.
All skin types and conditions can benefit from home rolling 2-3 times per week as long as it is done with the correct technique and using the right products for your skin’s requirements.
(See video below for Mariga’s demo on best technique for home rolling).
Your therapist will recommend the best Skin Essentials By Mariga serum for your individual home needling requirements, but in general Hydra Collagen Serum is a good choice for those on an anti ageing programme.
For those using needling treatment to help reduce acne scarring your therapist may recommend Hyaluronic Moisture Boost Serum for a younger skin type or perhaps Essential Nutrient Serum for those who are prone to inflammation.
If you are using home needling as a preventative or general part of your skincare routine and are not having clinical needling treatments for correction, you can use your home roller 2 to 3 times a week with your regular Skin Essentials serum.
If in doubt, the Hyaluronic+ Moisture Boost serum is a universal product that will benefit all skin types when used in conjunction with home rolling.

At Skin Essentials, we are huge fans of microneedling and have seen fantastic results on all skin conditions over the years from wrinkles to sagging skin, rosacea to scars.
But it is also carries risks if not performed correctly so it is very important to purchase your home roller from an authorised source.
There are many cheap versions available on the internet but these cannot be authenticated and may often be substandard tools. With the potential for skin damage associated with inferior rollers, it is never worth it to buy from an unknown source.
Remember, it is inappropriate to ever use needles deeper than 0.3 mm or to use any skincare product that has not been recommended for you in conjunction with your needling.
A good quality roller will last 4-6 months depending on how often you use it, and will then need to be replaced as the needles become blunt over time with repeated use.
