Biodynamic Lymphatic Drainage facial massage, new to the Skin Essentials Wexford  luxury facial menu. You will love this as much as we do – guaranteed!

Biodynamic lymphatic drainage is a manual technique employed to assist the natural lymphatic system of the face, neck and chest to flow easily and naturally. This keeps the contours of the face sharper and gives a beautiful, natural, lit- from-within glow to the skin.

Skin Essentials are currently only skincare clinic in Ireland offering biodynamic lymphatic drainage facials. All of our therapists have studied this beautiful modality with international expert educators.

BLD facials work on different levels of the skin, it’s structures, and also on the senses.

The first and most superficial effect is one of surface exfoliation which happens naturally as the skin is warmed and massaged during treatment. The increased circulation resulting from the specialised massage brings nutrients and oxygen to the cells resulting in an increased radiance and that lit from within glow that we are constantly chasing and trying to fake with make up! Finally, and most importantly, the specialised massage techniques combined with the intuitive energy of biodynamic lymphatic massage assists the flow of lymph around the face, draining down through the lymph nodes of the lower face and neck and draining into the terminus of the clavicle area.

The result? A softer, smoother, plumper skin with beautiful radiance, a boosted immune response, sharper facial contours and unbelievable levels of relaxation.

This exclusive treatment can be taken as a stand-alone facial treatment, as part of a series for longer-lasting results, or can be incorporated into any of the skin essentials customised facials.

You can request this treatment modality when booking your customised facial or we may recommended it as part of your treatment once we have examined your skin and determined your needs before your facial.

We love this treatment so much and believe that everybody should experience the results for themselves. We think this is the best luxury facial we have ever offered, so much so that we include it as part of the standard priced facial service – that’s right, an upgraded facial at no extra charge!

While everyone can benefit from BLD massage treatment, at Skin Essentials we particularly love performing this treatment on people who have difficulty sleeping, or who do not relax well in general, as we enjoy hearing your snores during treatment!

Microneedling demo – watch me have the treatment done

Microneedling is our most requested treatment here at Skin Essentials by Mariga. It is also the one most people have questions about or don’t fully understand. I blame incorrect information on the internet for this – mostly for the idea that microneedling causes bleeding or is extremely invasive with a lot of downtime. In fact, bleeding is rare and isolated to areas where we have to work deeper due to scars. Needling for wrinkles, lines and age prevention is relatively non-invasive and much more comfortable than you would imagine. In the three minute video below you can see a snippet of me having the treatment done and get an idea of how easy it really is!

Microneedling is natural, safe, proven, suitable for almost everybody and my personal favourite Age Slowly treatment. Combine it with great, personalised homecare and regular maintenance facials for the ultimate in anti-ageing skincare. All our needling treatments include LED for an added boost of power and a relaxing treat after the microneedling.

Three things you must avoid in your skincare

I think everyone that knows me and the Skin Essentials by Mariga philosophy of building great skin by nurturing the epidermis and it’s processes, is aware that we have three absolutes that you must avoid in your skincare:

Perfume, sulphates and essential oils.

The perfume and sulphates are easy enough to understand (perfume irritates skin, sulphates strip moisture) but often people are surprised that I include essential oils in that list – after all aren’t they natural?? (Yes – to plants!)

Find out exactly why the Skin Essentials way says no to essential oils in the video below:

The acne – food connection, what to avoid

f girl drinking milk with the word no - dairy free diet for acne as recommended by skin essentials, wexford

Foods that can contribute to acne flare ups.

When you are susceptible to acne breakouts you need to be mindful of your diet. Of course, this is true for every skin issue as a healthy digestion will always help build a healthy skin but acne-prone individuals need to watch out for more particular foods/ingredients. Many of the foods on the following list may cause no problems to you if eaten in isolation or small quantities, it is when several are combined that the load gets too great and irritation in the pores that is caused leads to breakouts.

There are different reasons why foods may contribute to skin irritation, the most common are dairy which affects skin oils, iodides which cause irritation deep in the pores and hormone-like foods which mimic the effects of testosterone/androgens/oestrogens on the skin.

If you suffer from acne it is useful to isolate the following foods for a while then reintroduce them one at a time to identify any culprits in your personal diet/skin connection.

Common foods that are known to exacerbate acne in many people are:

All dairy products
Kelp (watch out for this in multivitamins etc)
Iodised salt/sea salt (check processed foods and crisps)
Turkey
Asparagus
Broccoli
Onions
Peanuts
Peanut Oil
Corn
Corn Oil
Soy products
Organ Meats

This is by no means a complete list, just the most common triggers. You may find that there are other foods that do not agree with your skin but this list is a good place to start looking for culprits.

Cleaning up your diet and finding your personal triggers is one aspect of controlling your acne breakouts. Getting on proper, personalised homecare, being mindful of lifestyle triggers such as makeup and sun exposure, and having the correct clinical treatments such as LED & peels will all combine to keep your skin clear and healthy.
